Thanks to all that came out to support the Leopard baseball team this weekend for their series against the Boling Bulldogs in Bay City.  I know there were lots of things going on this weekend and we appreciate those of you that made it out.  Your Leopards swept the series 2 games to none, but the Bulldogs did not go quietly.  In game one Kade Kucera threw a brilliant 5 inning, 11 strike out, 1 hit game and the Leopards rolled to an 11-0 victory.  In Game Two on Saturday, the Bulldogs refused to be put away.  Boling led 4-1 until the top of the seventh inning when the Leopard hitters put some timely hits together and scored 3 runs to tie the game at 4.  That is where the score would stay until the top of the 12th inning when we were able to score three runs to break the game open.  Kade got his second win of the weekend by holding the Boling hitters to only three hits in extra innings and shut down a rally in the bottom of the 12th to earn the series win with a final score of 7-6.  Baseball's next action will be a one game, winner-take-all playoff game on Thursday May 12 against the Weimar Wildcats.  The game will be played in Columbus and we hope you can come out and cheer the team on.  Look foward to seeing you there!

Thank you to all that attended last night's game that kicked off our district season in baseball against Hitchcock.  We had a great crowd and the kids really appreciated everyone coming out.  For those of you that were at Tidehaven watching the softball team beat Tidehaven to go 5-0 in district (congrats!), or just couldn't make it out, here's a quick (and I mean quick) synopsis of what happened last night:

  • Adrian Martinez pitched 4 strong innings giving up only 2 unearned runs
  • 8 of 9 starters had a multi hit game including: Brandon Garay who hit a 3 run homerun AND a 2 run homerun, Josh Lankston with bases loaded hit a base clearing double with 2 outs, and Kade Kucera hit an RBI double and an 2 RBI triple
  • Your Leopards racked up 18 runs on the way to an 18-3 victory to open district 1-0 and even their season record up at 7-7
The kids played great and it was a good kickoff to district.  The Leopards face a tought test Friday when we travel to Danbury for our first of three meetings with them in district.  Both the JV and the Varsity will play.  JV goes at 5pm and Varsity at 7:30.  Thanks for your support in advance!

Thank you to all those that were able to come out and support us on Friday at home against East Bernard.  I know that with the track meet going on and UIL competition we were stretched thin, but we had pretty good numbers out to see us fight out the win 10-7.  The Leopard baseball team is currently 6-7 on the year and we begin district play tomorrow against Hitchcock here at home.  Please encourage everyone to come out and support the Leopards!  The JV plays at 5pm and the varsity kicks off at 7:30, see you all at the ballpark!

On a side note congratulations to the softball team who crushed Bloomington 22-0 on Friday and are currently undefeated in district!  They play at Tidehaven tomorrow night.

GO LEOPARDS!!

Kucera throws No-No, K’s 13

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Casey Kile  - The Bay City Tribune

Ganado had no answer for Kade Kucera or the rest of the Van Vleck Leopards Thursday, March 17.   After the Leopards scratched out a run in the first, Kucera went to work on the mound. Issuing a walk and a hit batsmen, Ganado looked to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

Kucera then struck out the next three batters on ten pitches to end the first unscathed.     Things stayed the same until the fourth. With one out Will McGonagle and Adrian Martinez reached on an error then came home on RBI’S from Josh Lankston and Dillon Martinez.     The Leps put it in cruise control the rest of the way as the defense stood strong and the strikeouts piled up.  The Leopards  ended the game with a 6-0 victory over the Indians.  Leading the way offensively for Van Vleck were Kade Kucera 2 for 3, two runs, Brandon Garay 1 for 2, with a walk. Kucera pitched the full seven innings allowing no hits, five walks and no runs.    Van Vleck will be back in action in Danbury at 7:30 p.m. April 1.

Leps look for repeat season

Posted: Sunday, March 20, 2011 4:00 am

The Van Vleck Leopards baseball team is looking to get on track with district approaching.

With all of their players back from basketball, the Leps are trying to iron out the wrinkles and get things headed in the right direction.

Obstacles seem to be the theme of the season so far. With two of their senior starters Dane Evans and Douglas Van Wie on the shelf with injuries, they will have to lean on their experience from last year’s three round playoff run to get them rolling in 2011.

With new Head Coach Ian Henley, they hope to take this season a little further.

The Leps should be ok with a team of mostly seniors leading the way. They will lean heavily on the left arm of senior Kade Kucera and sophomore right-hander Philip Wilson.

Offensively the Leps look to an array of seniors in Kucera, Adrian Martinez, Chet Champion, Will McGonagle, Josh Lankston and Brandon Garay.

Van Vleck starts district play on March 29 against Hitchcock in Van Vleck
